Zu den Songs zählen spätere Lightfoot-Klassiker wie Ribbon Of Darkness, For Lovin´ Me, Home From The Forest und Early Morning Rain.

Writing Gordon Lightfoot:The Man, the Music, and the World in 1972 McClelland & Stewart Dave Bidini
The definitive, full-access story of the life and songs of Canada´s legendary troubadour Gordon Lightfoot´s name is synonymous with timeless songs about trains and shipwrecks, rivers and highways, lovers and loneliness. His music defined the folk-pop sound of the 1960s and ´70s, topped charts, and sold millions. He is unquestionably Canada´s greatest songwriter, and an international star who has performed on the world´s biggest stages. While Lightfoot´s songs are well known, the man behind them is elusive. He´s never allowed his life to be chronicled in a book - until now. Biographer Nick Jennings has had unprecedented access to the notoriously reticent musician. Lightfoot takes us deep inside the artist´s world, from his idyllic childhood in Orillia, the wild ´60s, and his canoe trips into Canada´s North, to his heady times atop the music world. Jennings explores the toll that success took on his personal life - including his troubled relationships, his battle with alcohol, and his near-death experiences - and the extraordinary drive and tenacity that pulled him through it all. Rich in voices from fellow musicians, close friends, Lightfoot´s family, and the singer´s own reminiscences, the biography tells the stories behind some of his best-known love songs, including ´´Beautiful´´ and ´´Song for a Winter´s Night´´, as well as the infidelity and divorce that resulted in classics like ´´Sundown´´ and ´´If You Could Read My Mind´´. Kris Kristofferson has called Lightfoot´s songs ´´some of the most beautiful and lasting music of our time´´. Lightfoot is an unforgettable portrait of a treasured singer-songwriter, an artist whose work has been covered by everyone from Joni Mitchell, Barbra Streisand, and Nico, to Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, and Gord Downie. Revealing and insightful, Lightfoot is both an inspiring story of redemption and an exhilarating listen. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Nicholas Jennings. Set in a much-diminished America called the Christian Protectorates, a poor country ravaged by coastal flooding, drought, and catastrophic social upheaval, this novel features 15-year-old Polly Lightfoot, a maiden witch of deep heritage and tender ability in the craft. When her identity is exposed, Polly is forced to flee New Florida, where she has taken refuge from a military purge of the country´s infidels, pagans, and followers of false creeds. With the help of her steadfast familiar, a raven named Balthazar, and her brave teenage companion, Leon, Polly undertakes a harrowing journey from the troubled south to the wild north to rejoin her people in Vermont and save her ancient craft from obliteration. Polly and the One and Only World presents a frighteningly vivid depiction of our stricken land in the stifling grip of fundamentalists and suffering the grim consequences of climate calamity. Yet the story´s dire vision will inspire listeners of any age to appreciate their own freedom and their capacity, today, to work for positive social and political change. 1. Language: English. In the best-selling tradition of A Perfect Storm and The Finest Hours, a harrowing account of the incredible true story of the recent shocking disappearance of El Faro, a gigantic American cargo ship that sank suddenly in the Bermuda Triangle in 2015 - taking with it 33 lives. On October 1, 2015, the SS El Faro, a cargo ship tall as a hundred-story building that made a regular run between Jacksonville, Florida, and Puerto Rico, delivering everything from razor blades to new Chevrolet cars, disappeared in Hurricane Joaquin, a category 4 storm. The ship, her hundreds of shipping containers, and her entire crew sank to the bottom of the ocean, three miles down. The sinking was the greatest seagoing US merchant marine shipping disaster since World War II and evoked the haunting resonances of Gordon Lightfoot’s famous song ´´The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald”. The massive ship had a seasoned crew, state-of-the-art navigation equipment, advance warning of the storm, and knowledge of its supposed track. It seemed incomprehensible that such a ship could sink so suddenly, unable to send even a Mayday call before disappearing. How, in this day and age, could something like this happen? The answer is that a ship as large as the El Faro doesn’t sink for just one reason; it sinks because many factors intersect - everything from hurricane-tracking algorithms to the decay of rubber gaskets on hatches to the arcane science of loading shipping containers to the complex relationship between a ship’s captain and his corporate overlords, who are anxious that cargo be delivered on time. All of these factors and more came into play in the sinking of the El Faro. Relying on Coast Guard inquest hearings as well as numerous interviews, Foy has crafted a brilliant account that brings to life the last voyage of El Faro, from her loading to her shocking demise, a story lasting only a few days but... 1.
